Are Interior Designers The Spatial Visionaries? A Comprehensive Guide On Why You Might Need One

Image
Design is so simple. That's why it's so complicated. ~ Paul Rand Interior designers are professionals who bridge the gap between a building space and functionality, creativity and utility. While interior designers are closely related to architects, they are quite different still. Architects are majorly concerned with designing the overall design of a building, whereas interior designers work more intimately to convert these man-made spaces into utilitarian entities. Interior designers closely work with clients who have a vision in mind, and they strive to make their vision a reality. Ever since the pandemic hit, with people having to spent so much time at home, they have been eager to build a living space that marks escapism, that provides them comfort and serves as a retreat. The term interior designer has been contemplated. The profession by itself hasn’t been thoroughly established globally yet. In most European countries, where the profession has received recognition,...

They Never Learn | Layne Fargo | Book Review

Image
If you like academia, serial killers, revenge and feminist POVs, then this is the book for you. They Never Learn reminded me heavily of Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Elements like introvert girl with extrovert roommate, extremely charming and chivalrous male friend suddenly appearing, helping the protagonist come out of her shell, that one teacher recognizing talent and helping the protagonist get good grades are common in both the books. Anyway, coming back to They Never Learn. I’m a lover of serial killer mysteries so my expectations were skyrocketing while reading this, specially since one of my favourite booktubers, Gabby recommended it in one of her videos. I must say, it was going great but the ending kind of ruined it for me (that’s the worst). The opening scene was so well written it started off the book with a bang. Slowly as we followed the two parallel POVs of Carly and Scarlett, I became deeply invested in the story. The ambience complemented the plot beautifully. Scarlett is ...

The Sun Down Motel | Simone St. James | Book Review

Image
This thriller+horror book is for you if you love spooky horror movies that follow unusually curious protagonists who uncover deep dark secrets of places, families or themselves. The Sun Down Motel follows two timelines, which appear to be confusingly interchangeable to the reader. But, it has all the elements of a pure horror book, that’ll give you the chills and thrills. Viv Delaney had disappeared from the Sun Down Motel thirty-five years ago. Now, her niece Carly Kirk is back in Fell, determined to uncover the secret behind her aunt’s disappearance all those years ago. Soon she finds out that the Sun Down in not a normal place, it has a dark secret that looms over the almost alive motel. A large chunk of the book actually deals with Viv(then) and Carly(now) digging up the pasts of the women who had disappeared from the Sun Down. So, a lot of newspaper articles, online searching, photographs, stalking and investigating. I felt that some of the sub-plots did not properly blend into th...

The One | John Marrs | Book Review

Image
What drew me towards the book was its unique concept. A DNA swab test to find out who your ideal match in the entire world is? Now that seems like something. Not to mention, I loved the book! The One by John Marrs follows five people – Mandy, Christopher, Jade, Nick and Ellie, who have been matched with their respective partners through DNA test. But each has their own crazy secrets, and when everything gradually unfolds, you get a nail-biting psychological thriller. The chapters were short and crisp, and every chapter ended with a cliffhanger so there is just no stopping. I am a fan of any book that promises a good plot twist and this one has a lot of them sprinkled throughout (and really unexpected ones!). So, it was a clear winner for me. The story is narrated from the third person perspective, the writing style is crisp and just enough detailed for you to feel the emotions that the characters intend to convey. I was getting a little confused with the characters towards the beginn...

The Guest List | Lucy Foley | Book Review | Pomspace

Image
A lot of people have compared Foley’s The Guest List to Agatha Christie’s books . While I get the fact that there are similarities, I don’t think a comparison is particularly useful. The book’s extremely atmospheric, with a setting tailor made to host a murder mystery. The isolated island vibes, the grand wedding all set to take place, the dark secrets of people’s lives all add to the fact that while weddings are beautiful affairs, they can be sinister. Jules is getting married to Will in a particularly non-conventional wedding venue in an island off the Irish coast. The place’s breathtakingly stunning. As the guests start arriving the evening before the wedding, you realize that people have secrets deep buried in the past which if surfaced, can mess up everything. The characters all have deep rooted issues involving their own lives, their traumatic pasts. The book is written from the point of view of all these characters, in addition to which, two parallel timelines go on, one on th...

Lock Every Door | Riley Sager | Book Review

Image
Never take anything you haven’t earned, my father used to say. You always end up paying for it one way or another. If closed door mysteries and potential haunted houses with dark pasts are your kinda tropes in thrillers, then you’ll love Lock Every Door. Barring certain parts where I felt the writing sort of slowed down, it was a great thriller, pretty gripping and full of nail-biting suspense. The story is narrated by our main character Jules, who is in both a financial and personal crisis right after she broke up with her boyfriend. One fine day she comes across an ad claiming the need for an apartment sitter at the Bartholomew, one of Manhattan’s most gigantic, splendid and mysterious residency buildings, housing the most high-profile personalities of the city. But there are these bizarre rules about not having visitors and not bothering other residents. Soon she discovers that apartment sitters from the Bartholomew are disappearing long before she moved in and Jules is determined t...

Verity | Colleen Hoover | Book Review | Dark Thriller

Image
**WARNING: THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS** Find what you love and let it kill you. Oh gosh! Where to begin? It felt like Rebecca meets The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo . And that is a combination I am up for any day. Okay let me start by saying that that was dark. Really dark and disturbing. So, if you are someone who is uncomfortable with reading infant harm, child murder or explicitly triggering scenes, then here is a warning for you. Now that said, let’s begin. The book begins with Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer, heading for a meeting that’ll supposedly lead to a great career opportunity, when she witnesses a tragic accident in which a truck crushes the skull of a man. Lowen is still processing the gruesomeness of the incident when she meets Jeremy, who turns out is headed to the same meeting as her. Lowen gets an offer to finish the last three books in a series written by Verity Crawford. After expressing initial disinterest, Lowen decides to accept the offer. W...
