I Let You Go | Clare Mackintosh | Book Review

Image
Ok this was something else. I loved every bit of it! I was kinda complaining up until the first half of the book, because the pace was too damn slow and nothing major relating to the central incident was happening but then – boom! There was one twist then another then another and I was pretty much dead by the end of the book. A little about the plot – Five-year-old Jacob Jordan is hit by a car in an otherwise quiet street, just in front of his house. Jenna Gray, unable to recover from the loss she suffered, moves to a secluded cottage in Wales to distance herself from her traumatic past. A team of detectives in Bristol investigate the crime, jump from one disappointing lead to another before getting orders to close the case for want of evidence. But the past isn’t buried just yet and Jacob’s death bring forth a series of lives colliding, stories merging and a chain of dark secrets. The story is told from multiple POVs, and you get to know the story from the perspective of Jenna as well...

The Wife Between Us | Greer Hendricks | Sarah Pekkanen | Book Review

Image
**WARNING - THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS** Another domestic thriller featuring a married couple with a dark past, the layers of secrets shedding off slowly as the story progresses, and none of the characters are what they seem like. The plot of this story reminded me heavily of The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine (you’ll know why if you have read it). Nevertheless, tropes like that are my guilty pleasure and additionally, the story has major plot twists so it’s no surprise that I liked it. The plot goes like this – Vanessa’s ex husband Richard is getting married to a young woman. Seemingly, she is jealous of her replacement and decides to sabotage their marriage. The plot keeps on switching from present to flashback and back, and you steadily learn about the pasts of our main characters. There is a major twist about halfway through the book which I absolutely loved! From there, as events unfold and a lot of things are going on, you would expect an ending which will comp...

The Girl On The Train | Paula Hawkins | Book Review

Unreliable narrators, unlikable characters, a slow built suspense and a dramatic revealing end. If you love all or any of these then The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins is the book for you. Spooky season is just round the corner and snuggling up with a thriller really helps to get the vibe going. The plot is set in London and the mention of London streets, trains and old school Victorian houses just make up for a perfect fall read by the fireside sipping hot coco. *makes sad noises* Having said that, the main plot, though captivating is not unique. Rachel takes the commuters train to London everyday and observes the same things everyday around her. But she gets particularly attracted to the married life of a couple, overlooking a train signal stop. She names them Jason and Jess and becomes obsessively involved in their life only to find out that things are not quite what they seem. Before she can realize, her own past and their lives become entangled in a way that becomes more and...
