A Promising Sleep Snatcher : A Review Of S. J. Watson's Before I Go To Sleep
Whoooooosh!
Where do I even start from? It has been a roller coaster ride, the whole
experience of reading S. J. Watson’s Before I Go To Sleep. One of the best
debut novels of the year, winner of Crime Thriller of the Year, the book is
sure to steal sleep out of your eyes for days after you put down the book.
The story
revolves around a woman named Christine, who loses her memory every time she
wakes up from her sleep. She finds herself living with a man who calls himself
her husband. She is meeting a doctor, who insists that her husband should not
know about their appointments at all. The writing style, the tone, the engaging
plot all combines together to build and sustain the suspense right till the
last page. The characters are so intriguing, you just keep wondering throughout
whom to trust. You become Christine. You become a part of her seemingly
impossible quest for the truth; the truth of her life, which may take up life
itself. It is extremely difficult for me to resist the urge to disclose the nail-biting
ending; I can just tell you the ending will be worth all the time you spent in
reading the book. You perhaps will be left with some unanswered questions, for you to figure out for yourself.
I haven’t
watched the film yet, but I wish to soon. Watson’s debut novel has really set
my standards for psychological thrillers real high!
